Lincoln Children’s Zoo
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo has been a part of Lincoln, Nebraska’s history and is a landmark that has been a big contribution to the community since its completion in 1965. Also, one third of the animals within the confines of the zoo are endangered, and the zoo is doing its part in preserving our wildlife.
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo has more than 300 animals in captivity, featured in a way as to offer real up-close viewings. Among the animals you can see in the Lincoln Children’s Zoo river otters, reindeer, naked mole rats, squirrel monkeys. Birds are also abundant and attract a lot of kids due to their colorful plumage. Main feathered attractions include the Indian blue peacock, emu, violet turaco, and of course the American bald eagle. One of the areas that get the most attention are the reptiles’ terrains. Snakes like the ball python and the blood python can be found, along with legless lizards and gila monsters. Of course what reptile collection would be complete without crocodiles, and the Lincoln Children’s Zoo has them too in the form of dwarf crocodiles.
Aside from the regular animals found in the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, you can also find various insects and artrhopods like butterflies and a few kinds of tarantulas like the Mexican red-kneed tarantula and the Chilean rose tarantula. These welcome additions give the zoo a more exotic and flavorful feel.
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is open to the public from the hours of 10:00 in the morning up to 5:00 in the afternoon. The Lincoln Children’s Zoo areas are retrofitted with accessibility ramps for those using wheelchairs and allows for kids of all ages and backgrounds to wander around and enjoy a day with nature.
