Burkholder Project

The Burkholder Project is a one of a kind collection of art and design studios, totalling to 36, located at the heart of the Historic Haymarket District. Complete with 3 levels of galleries connected by a sun-lit atrium and lofts for its resident artist, the Burkholder Project is truly a unique collective that continues to contribute to the local art and culture of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Designed and developed by Anne Burkholder, the building of the Bunkholder Project was obtained back in 1987. Originally built in 1914, the building was then known as the Old Woods Brothers Office Building, which was home to several real estate and agricultural businesses. Anne Burkholder came up with the idea of creating a place in Lincoln, Nebraska that would be perfect for a community of artists of work in, a space that inspired them and allowed them the freedom to express themselves fully while at the same time inspiring and being inspired by other artists around them as a support system. Currently the Burkholder Project represents fifteen regional, national, and even international “Associated Artists” in their new Sampler Gallery found on the lower level of the building.

Art now lives and breathes more lively in Lincoln, Nebraska, thanks to the Burkholder Project and its amazing group of artists. People are even invited to join in on the creation of many different artworks, as both locals of Lincoln, Nebraska and tourists are encouraged to observe how the resident artists practice their creative processes, inquire and ask questions, and learn about the many different forms of art available. Visitors of the building are also welcome to browse through the Burkholder Project galleries and the working studios where these artworks are created. On a good day, one can even witness how a masterpiece is created as they watch one of the many resident artists execute his finishing touches on a certain piece.
