Like all cities in the world, the City of Lincoln in Nebraska, USA has several unique features that make it different from all the other cities. One possible source of individuality and distinctness for this large American city is its arts and culture.
Lincoln, Nebraska is the seat of power in Lancaster County, Nebraska as well as the capital of Nebraska itself. Aside from that, it is also has a large population, the second largest in fact in the entire state of Nebraska. Being all these things, Lincoln becomes a significant political and cultural center for the entire State of Nebraska. It comes as no surprise then to know that there are several cultural spots and centers for the arts and entertainment in this fine city.
Music is very much celebrated in Lincoln, Nebraska. The principal venue for live musical performances is the Pershing Auditorium. This multi-purpose stadium / arena can seat up to 4,500 people and when not used by the Lincoln Capitols NIFL football team or the Lincoln ABA basketball team, the arena becomes the venue for large concerts and band tours. Other venues in Lincoln, Nebraska that feature live musical performances but are smaller in size and capacity are the Chatterbox, Zoo Bar, Knickerbockers, Duffy’s Tavern and the Pla Mor Ballroom. The principal band that usually performs in the Pla Mor Ballroom is called the Sandy Creek Band which is famed all throughout Lincoln and Lancaster County.
Sometimes, the Lied Center also becomes the venue for musical concerts. However, this state-of-the-art entertainment facility is most usually the venue for theater plays, operas, lectures and Broadway shows. There are also several other venues for the performing arts in the City of Lincoln, Nebraska. Talented artists and performers in the University of Nebraska in Lincoln perform at the Temple Building. This venue however is primarily used exclusively by the student body and the university. Other theater productions and artistic performances made by community groups and Lincoln theater lovers are placed at the Loft, the Haymarket Theater or at the large Lincoln Community Playhouse. All these theaters and performance centers are very valuable to the city because they help develop and encourage the city’s culture and the citizens’ love for the performing arts.
When it comes to film and movies, there are several privately owned movie theaters and cinemas found in Lincoln. Some of these are found in malls while other have their own buildings or venues where people can come to see both local and international movies. A noteworthy film viewing venue in Lincoln however is the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center in the University of Nebraska in Lincoln because it is an avid supporter of independently-produced films and art films and it constantly screens independent films and foreign movies.
